Gateway Doubles Team Wins Third Consecutive WPIAL Title
Gateway’s dominance in WPIAL Class 3A boys tennis doubles continued on Wednesday, as our top-seeded duo brought home the title for the third straight year.Senior Zidaan Hassan earned his third WPIAL doubles gold medal and celebrated with junior partner Logan Memije, marking their second consecutive championship as a team. The pair showcased their skill and teamwork with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win over Mt. Lebanon’s Luca Ritivoi and Mark Summers, the tournament’s No. 2 seeds.After trailing early in the first set, Hassan and Memije won four of the final five games to secure it, then carried that momentum into a dominant second set.Hassan previously won the doubles title in 2023 with Logan’s older brother, Adam Memije, who also recently captured the WPIAL singles title.With the team looking to build on last year’s WPIAL team championship and runner-up finish, the focus now shifts to the WPIAL Team Tournament.

Gateway Tennis had a day to remember on Friday at the WPIAL Boys Singles Championships, with senior Adam Memije capturing the Class 3A Singles Title and senior Zidaan Hassan securing a strong third-place finish. Memije Wins WPIAL Title in an Epic FinalIn a thrilling rematch of last year’s final, Memije battled past defending champion Advaita Sircar in a marathon match that lasted nearly four hours. With strong winds and tough court conditions, both players showed incredible grit and heart.Memije started fast, breaking Sircar twice to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Sircar, however, clawed his way back and edged out the first set 7-5. In the second, Memije fought back from a 0-2 deficit, eventually winning the set 7-5 after a clutch break and hold.The third and final set turned into a back-and-forth battle of returns, featuring seven consecutive breaks of serve. Volleyball Sweeps North Hills on 4/01/25
On Tuesday evening, the Gateway Gators hosted the North Hills Indians to open AAA Section 4 ball for their season. The smooth hands of Tommy Nikou and the crisp passes of Owen Echegaray and Ethan Nguyen allowed for the Gators to feast on the net. Led by Darious Farrar (11 kills), Daniel Bozicevic (8 kills), and Chase Lewandowski (5 kills), the Gators secured a clean 3-0 sweep of the Indians. The win puts Gateway Boys Volleyball at 3-0 overall, and 1-0 in section play. On Thursday, Gateway will look to chomp their way to victory for their second AAA Section 4 match of the season when the Gators face off against the Penn Hills Indians. JV play will begin at 6:00, and Varsity will follow at 7:00.

Congratulations to senior outside hitter Darious Farrar, who was voted as a AAA Player of the Week by the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association. Darious' seemingly innate ability to pick apart a defense on serve-receive and his lethal ability as a quick-strike hitter have led to this highly distinguished recognition. >

Gator Volleyball Opens with a Victory over Our Lady of Sacred Heart 3/25/25
On Tuesday evening, the Gateway Boys Volleyball team hosted Our Lady of Sacred Heart for a non-conference match to officially open the season for the Gators. Led by senior Darious Farrar, who racked up 17 kills on his swings and 6 aces on his serves, the Gators chomped their way through the visiting Chargers in a clean sweep. After this 3-0 victory to open the season, the Gators now set their sights to Friday evening when they will visit the McKeesport Tigers in a non-conference, Varsity only match that begins at 6:00 p.m. at McKeesport Area High School.

PIAA Swimming Championships
>This past weekend, two Gateway swimmers competed in the PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University. Hunter Raymer placed 14th in the 200 Individual Medley and 10th in the 500 Freestyle, breaking his own school record in that event. Gunner Raymer placed 23rd in the 200 Freestyle achieving a season best time. Congratulations to Hunter and Gunner and all of the swim team members for their successes this swim season! >

Congratulations To Our Bocce Team Placing 3rd in the Region!
Out of over 50 teams in the Western Region of Pennsylvania, Gateway finished 3rd in the region by going 2-1 in the 2025 Regional Interscholastic Unified Bocce Championships, held at Geneva College. Congratulations to all bocce players, fans and supporters for a tremendously successful 2024-2025 season. >

Swimming Championship Updates
Last weekend, At the WPIAL Swimming Championships, Hunter Raymer placed 6th in both the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle. Gunner Raymer placed 8th in the 200 Free and 9th in the 100 Breaststroke while Aliya Rassiane placed 6th in the 50 free and 8th in the 100 butterfly. Owen Echegaray placed 11th in the 100 butterfly. Good luck goes out to Hunter, Gunner, and Aliya who all advanced to the PIAA State Championships next weekend at Bucknell University.

Bowling Western Regional Championships
The Gateway Bowling Gators had a tremendous weekend at the Western Regional Championships on March 7th and 9th. On Friday Chase Owens qualified 6th with a 1052 for five games. Punching his ticket to the State Championships. On Sunday, the team was not to be outdone, qualifying 4, falling to the eventual Champion Thomas Jefferson in the quarter finals and punching their ticket to States. The Gators were led by Chase Owens who bowled a 681 series and made the all tournament team. State Championships are on March 14th and 15th. >

Boys Varsity BaseballScrimmage against Shaler was a good measuring stick for the program. One tough inning defined this game. Overall Gateways pitchers threw strikes and defended well. The bats will need to wake up for this team to find success. There were a lot of positives to take away from this pre season scrimmage.
